What is Mobile Phone Security (CyberGuard)?

Mobile Phone Security powered by MobileIron & Zimperium is a comprehensive mobile device management software that designed to manage and secure apps and content on mobile devices from a wide range of online threats, including malware, phishing, ransomware, and data breaches. It offers advanced security features to ensure the safety and integrity of your company's digital assets.

What is Cisco Umbrella?

Cisco Umbrella is a cloud-based security solution that blocks malicious domains, IPs, and URLs at DNS (Domain Name System) and IP layers before connections are made. It also includes a secure web gateway, cloud firewall, and threat intelligence for comprehensive network protection.

How does CyberGuard works?

Cyber Guard Device can identify both known and unknown threats by analyzing your mobile device's behavior. By detecting slight deviations in the mobile device’s operating system statistics, memory, CPU, and other system parameters, the detection engine can accurately determine how the attack occurred and recommend actions to protect your data and keep your mobile safe.

How does Cisco Umbrella work?

Cisco Umbrella inspects and filters internet traffic using DNS. When you try to visit a website, their DNS request is routed through Umbrella's global data centers. Safe sites are allowed, while malicious ones are blocked, preventing access.

What are some key features of Cyber Guard Device?

  • On-device protection; doesn’t need internet connectivity.
  • Protection from malicious or risky apps.
  • Protection from harmful WiFis or nearby networks.
  • Protection from known and unknown threats.
  • Protection from malicious/phishing URLs.
  • Recommendations and decisions when malicious activity is discovered.

What is DNS layer security and how does this help my business?

Domain name system (DNS) layer security acts as the first line of defense. It stops malware earlier and prevents callbacks to attackers if infected machines connect to your network. It’s the primary target of cyberattacks as people tend to pay less attention to it.

How does Cyber Guard Device perform remediation?

The Cyber Guard Device can identify both known and unknown threats by using machine learning to analyze mobile device behavior.

E.g. If a device connects to a malicious WiFi network, the Cyber Guard Device can be configured to disconnect from the WiFi or block network communication with company servers and apps. Additionally, it can integrate with existing enterprise mobility management (MDM, EMM) solutions to provide conditional access blocking.

Is it important to encrypt databases and customer information in a company?

Yes. And here’s why:

  • It prevents security attacks and intruders will not be able to breach data.
  • It helps to protect remote workers and prevents cybercriminals from intercepting unsecured public Wi-Fi connections.
  • It increases consumer trust. By complying with certain encryption standards, this could give you a competitive advantage.

Isn’t my antivirus app sufficient?

No, signature-based technology is ineffective against unknown and dynamic threats, as it only guards against known malware and can take days to update its databases. Furthermore, it does not provide protection against mobile network attacks or device exploits.

How would Cisco Umbrella be set up to my WiFi?

No installation or set up needed. Our system integrator will provision your WiFi remotely with Cisco Umbrella service once your connectivity is successfully activated.

Are there any other benefits to this on-device protection solution?

Yes, you can use it to perform device hardening. This is applicable to project-based mobile  devices or corporate-owned mobile devices, allowing you to disable cameras and app store access for data loss prevention purposes, ensure that the device is only used for work purposes, and enforce a device passcode to ensure the device is encrypted.

Can Cisco Umbrella protect remote workers?

Cisco Umbrella WiFi security only extends protection to those that are connected to the CelcomDigi WiFi network. Beyond the coverage area of CelcomDigi’s WiFi network, workers will not be protected unless they are on the CelcomDigi Cisco Umbrella Mobile Security.

Does Cyber Guard require Internet connection to operate?

No, because this solution operates directly on the device, it doesn't need an internet connection. This ensures real-time detection and alerts without any delay.

What kind of threats can Cisco Umbrella protect against?

Cisco Umbrella guards against various threats, such as malware, phishing, ransomware, and command-and-control callbacks. It also prevents data exfiltration and ensures compliance with security policies.

Can I use Cyber Guard while Roaming?

Yes, the device remains protected even in airplane mode and while roaming, unlike internet-dependent security solutions which can be disabled by attackers if the device is compromised.

Can I use this service whilst roaming overseas?

No, you cannot use this service outside Malaysia.

I have an iOS device. Am I still vulnerable?

iOS devices have been proven to be vulnerable time after time. All the major iOS versions had publicly available jailbreaks within days of the updates, making them significantly more vulnerable.

I have an iOS device, is my device protected if I swipe off the App?

Yes. The app communicates with the server periodically and wakes up the Cyber Guard Device app in the background. Cyber Guard Device will alert you only in case of threats and as per the alerting policy set forward by your administrator.

Why should I care about mobile device management?

When employees receive company devices, they may install personal apps, exposing the device to potential threats. Providing devices with telco plans can lead to unexpected costs from in-app purchases. Cyber Guard Device's lockdown feature ensures devices are used for work with approved apps.

For Bring your own device (BYOD), it prevents data leaks (e.g., accidental sharing) by containerizing corporate data, adding authentication layers, and enforcing security policies like encryption and passcodes.

My company deployed a BYOD strategy. Can I use zero-touch deployment to deploy a mass number of devices?

No, Zero-touch deployment is exclusively for corporate-owned devices, as they must be registered as company property. For BYOD, it's preferable for employees to self-enroll so they understand the policies regarding company data access.

What is the typical battery consumption of using Cyber Guard Device app?

It depends on company policies on the duration of the sync interval between the device and the server. The default sync policy is every 4 hours; the average consumption of battery is between 0.3% to 0.6% per hour. The longer the sync interval, the lesser the battery consumption.

What is the data consumption of using the Cyber Guard Device app?

The data consumption is minimal as most of the detections take place locally. The average data consumption over a 7-day period is approximately 200KB.

What happens when there is an attack or threat detected on my device?

In the event of an attack, Cyber Guard Device first alerts you on your device via a notification. Upon tapping on the notification, you will be taken into the app to see additional information regarding the threat and remediation actions you can take to remain safe.

How would the Mobile Phone Security be set up on my device?

Our system integrator will provision your device remotely with the Mobile Phone Security service once your connectivity is successfully activated.

How does the licensing work?

One licence is required per device/phone number. Other Android or Apple devices which are WiFi only (i.e. tablets) are also eligible and count as a device. Even though they don’t have a cellular connection (or phone number) they are susceptible to the same types of attacks.

Is Mobile Phone Security carrier-agnostic?

Absolutely. While the service and licences are provided by CelcomDigi they are available to any carrier's devices. This allows the organisation to have a single mobile device security strategy for all carrier connected devices.

If yes, does the user download an app to the device?

Yes, the user will get an email with a link to the Apple App Store or Google Play along with an activation link. The entire thing is standalone and very simple. There is no need to be on the CelcomDigi network or any other cellular network. They just need internet connectivity to activate the license and it will only communicate to the server periodically for any policy update or when threat is detected.

Does it work on any phone/tablet model?

It works on any device that runs Android or Apple iOS.

Does it work on feature phones?

It does not. Many of the feature phones are running proprietary operating systems.

How does Cyber Guard ensure data privacy?

The Cyber Guard Device only collects threat and device information in the event of an attack and pushes applications in accordance with company policy. To further protect user privacy, the Cyber Guard Device does not view, store, or transmit any personal information, such as contacts, personal emails, SMS messages, or browser traffic from the mobile device.

What can a Cyber Guard Device admin see on your device?
